Bio & Incident Details: Lieutenant Charles “Fred” Bricker died on January 7, 1940 at 9:05 P.M. from injuries he received on January 5, 1940 during a motor vehicle accident. Patrolman Burgess Walker was driving, while Lt. Charles Bricker was the passenger, in a cruiser that traveling toward the West End of Huntington, responding to a call of two men holding up a gas station. The vehicle crashed into a loaded coal car belonging to the Chesapeake & Ohio railway at Third Street and Fourth Avenue. It was said that the cruiser was virtually demolished. There were no blinker lights on the railroad crossing to alert drivers of the train. Bricker was a 22 year member of the Huntington police Department.
